COVID-19 surely is a very concerning issue and we all want it to get eradicated as soon as possible. It’s causing thousands of deaths each day and leaving most of us in a despondent state inside our homes. While it surely is a great time to spend time with your family, it is also an ideal time for our personal development. Most of you may already have a job and work from home must be keeping you busy. If not, and you’re a student or someone who’s got the free time it is the perfect time to work on yourself. You could work on building up confidence, getting rid of fears, improving body language, waking up early, reading and so much more. Such activities go a long way towards growing yourself up as a better human being and keeping your mental health at check. We’ve listed out a few reasons why this is the perfect time for personal development.

Escape from the city hustle & bustle:

We always dream of becoming better human beings and having a well-managed life. If you are a working individual or a student, you know that with the busy schedule at the office or at school, you barely get to work on yourself. Most of the day is spent at work or school and even if you do have shorter working hours, the noisy and cramped traffic wastes a lot of your time and sucks up all of your energy. In this lockdown where you don’t have to face any of it, it is an appropriate time to do those things that on regular days you didn’t have time for.

A very rare long break:

You probably won’t be getting such a break any other time of the year. You’ll either be spending time at school or at the office. But right now all you can do is stay home. Personal development requires time and space and we don’t think there’s any better time than this lockdown. You have all the time from morning till night to work on whatever you’d always wanted to. Whether it be learning a new software, cooking something new or reading that book your friend always insisted you on reading, you’ve got the time to do it all.

Homely environment:

Learning new things with the comfort of staying at home is actually a privilege that you normally do not have. Unless you are homeschooled which is very rare in any part of the world, you will most likely go to an office or to a school. However with this enforced lockdown, you get to stay home, study and get all the love and support of your family. It can be a motivating factor and inspire you to work harder and learn things faster and with more interest.

You get to choose your timing:

With no office to go to and no responsibility to run after, your timings get quite flexible. Of course if you have a job and are working from home, you’ve got to dedicate the specified hours to it but if you’re not, you’ve got the whole day at your hand with the liberty to do anything and at anytime. If you’re a morning person, you could sleep early at night to wake up fresh and early the other day. If you’re a night person which is really cool, you can wake up all night and work on the things you want. If you’ve got other responsibilities at home then you will have to adjust accordingly but if not, time is all yours and you can handle it how you want.

And during this period some things you could to develop your personal attributes are:

Read:

Reading books is not set as a priority by most people because they find it intimidating and time consuming. Yes, it might be so when you don’t have a habit of it. It’ll grow on you once you start reading regularly. The benefits are often overlooked and people tend to think they’re fine without it. It can boost your vocabulary, help you improve your writing, give you extra knowledge, and overall make you smarter. If you want to get started with reading books this is the perfect time to do so. You have enough time to start with just few pages a week to being able to finish a book in the same timeframe.

Build confidence:

Being confident is relatively difficult. If you do not practice it or work on improving it, you’ll surely fall behind and have a hard time expressing your self articulately. Once again, this lockdown is a great time to practice it. Write a speech, a poem, a story, anything. Practice it out loud whether it is to a mirror, your brother, sister, mother it doesn’t matter. Just get up and get on with it.

Improve body language:

Body language is one of the first things that someone notices when they first see you. The way you present yourself will give a lasting impression to the other person. Hence it is very important that you evaluate your body language and see where you are going wrong and where you can improve. You could ask your family members or even friends via video call, they’ll surely help you out.

You can treat this like a long study break where you’ve got ample time to learn. Do not let this time go to waste. You could use this time to learn that thing you always wanted and come out of the lockdown fresh and ready to conquer the world. And remember, it is NOT a vacation.
